Front Hall Closet
I had been putting this one off for waaaaayyyy too long. Years ago, yep - years ago…..the closet shelf and rod fell down. So we threw the shelf and brackets away. And the vacuum cleaner and Bissel SpinWave had a room to themselves.
Over the last 4 years we have really improved and remodeled the whole west side of our house. This closet is on that side of the house, taunting me while I watched TV in a beautiful living room…..calling me out as a fraud…..yep, the closet annoyed me.
So here is a before photo of the closet which is really a furnace closet with enough space left over for a closet;
The Before Picture of the Sad Front Hall Closet
Now at this point in my work around the house, I had hung three closet organizers. I had started to buy the Menard’s John Sterling system and get started. Then I opened the door and immediately knew I could not be proud of the closet organizer if I did not do it right. This closet needed to be patched, painted and given a new light. I am not good at that stuff, so here we go…..
Using the gray of my first floor walls in the closet - really liked how this looked!
I am happy to give my painting mentor some props at this point; my husband. He has perfected the painting skills and knows the tools. There were a lot of weird corners, pockets of space and a tight room so he gave me a lot of helpful pointers. Then I did the work when he was not around so I could screw up and not be seen doing it!
Turning the corner of finishing the closet
After a few days and doing all the patching, sanding and painting it was exciting to start putting things back together! Putting the switch plates back up (with a protector so I didn’t accidentally turn off the HVAC system).
Awesome closet light!
The idea here is that I used the system I liked, I chose to use the hang trak and uprights in oil rubbed bronze because it is even in the door fixtures throughout the house. The white matches the trim but more importantly were reused from a shelf I had in the garage - free! I am looking for a good top shelf container for seasonal things, but that is also why I have that pretty basket on the floor. It added some texture and covered the ugly floor!
Perhaps the greatest review of my work came from my mom after I sent her a picture of my progress and she replied, “You did a great job. I liked the hangers.” I like the hangers too, and the fact that she can see them and not mistakes! Thanks, Mom!
